Aishwarya to honour Hugh Jackman

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai will present a memento to Hollywood star Hugh Jackman at the FICCI-FRAMES 2011 annual convention on the business aspects of the entertainment and media industry here March 23-25.
The 37-year-old star will honour Jackman on the final day of the event, a press statement said.
Aishwarya, an internationally known actress, was asked by FICCI and its entertainment committee’s co-chair, filmmaker Karan Johar, to attend the function and present Jackman with a memento of appreciation.
Jackman, 42, has played a variety of roles in Hollywood and is well known for his role as Wolverine in the popular ‘X Men’ series.

Charlie Sheen expected to rake in $7m from live tour

Charlie Sheen is expected to bank a whopping million dollars from his live tour.
The fired star of ‘Two and a Half Men’ is expected to rake this cool amount from the 21 dates on his newly expanded comedy tour, his paid after-party appearances and merchandising, reports TMZ.
The adults-only ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option’ show added a dozen new cities, including Atlantic City, N.J., on April 16 and Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 2.
While details are scarce, the act is set to last one hour and 15 minutes, with Sheen getting 85 percent of the profits and his partner Live Nation getting the rest, reports the New York Daily News.
Sheen will do his act sitting in chair and there’s been no advertising budget beyond the actor’s already dominant Internet presence.

Former Shadows guitarist Jet Harris dies

British musician Jet Harris, who played bass guitar in Cliff Richard’s band The Shadows, has died aged 71, British media reported on Friday.
Terence Harris, nicknamed ‘Jet’ because he was one of the fastest runners in his school, was introduced to Richard in 1958, and his website credits him with coming up with the name The Shadows.
‘Jet was exactly what the Shadows and I needed—a backbone holding our sound together,’ Richard said in a statement.
‘Jet, the bass player, will always be an integral part of British rock’n’roll history. Losing him is sad—but the great memories will stay with me. Rock on, Jet.’
With The Shadows, Harris enjoyed a string of hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s including ‘High Class Baby,’ the chart-topping ‘Apache’ and ‘Guitar Tango.’ His last recording with the band was ‘Wonderful Land’ in 1962, which also made it to number one in the British charts.
After leaving the group, Harris teamed up with former Shadows bandmate Tony Meehan and again reached number one with ‘Diamonds’ in 1963.
After a serious car crash nearly ended his career he faded from the limelight, although he did tour in Europe and release several albums. As his success as a musician faded, Harris became a professional photographer.
He was made an MBE for his services to music, and died after a two-year battle with cancer. Earlier this month he was forced to cancel all appearances due to ill health.

Rihanna, Swift, Gomez back Unicef water campaign

Singers Rihanna Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are backing a campaign to force restaurant owners to charge for tap water to help fund clean drinking water around the world.
Contactmusic.com reports, the singers have added their name to Unicef’s tap water project, which urges restaurant owners to ask diners to pay $1 for tap water they would usually receive for free.
In one of the advertising posters highlighting the scheme, Rihanna poses next to a bottle of her personalised drink with the words: ‘Rihanna Tap Water. Not your typical tap water, unless of course, you live next door to Rihanna.’
A message on the Unicef website read: ‘Celebrities have donated their own tap water to help raise awareness of the world water crisis. Donations enter individuals in our sweepstakes to win an esteemed collection of these famous tap waters.’

‘The Last Sitting’ of topless Marilyn Monroe set to fetch 15K pounds at auction

A unique print showing nine pictures of a topless Marilyn Monroe is set to go under the hammer.
The photos from her final ever shoot, just six weeks before she died, shows the star playing with a see-through scarf and pouts and poses like the model professional that she was.
Photographer Bert Stern’s three-day session with the famous blonde was a return to form for the glamour queen after a few difficult years.
She clearly had some artistic control because after the shoot she crossed out one of the photos on the ‘contact sheet’ because she didn’t like it.
Stern published the photographs - titled ‘The Last Sitting’ - nearly 20 years after her death.
He later blew these images up for an exhibition because they beautifully summed up the movie star.
Monroe died aged 36 in 1962 and the photos from this session have helped define the image of her retained in the public conscience.
They are expected to sell for 15,000 pounds when they are auctioned at the Swann Gallery in New York on March 24.
‘The photos were taken over a three day session just six weeks before she died. It was her final ever shoot,’ the Daily Mail quoted Daile Kaplan, from the auction house, as saying.
‘Stern took 2,500 photos in all and these are especially nice because she is playing with a scarf.
‘It was nearly two decades after her death that he published them and this contact sheet was blown up for an exhibition.
‘It is unique and includes a red cross over one of the pictures that Marilyn did herself because she didn’t like it - it is not as erotic as the rest.
‘The photos discreetly reveal her nudity and showed how Stern engaged her as an actress, model and woman.
‘Marilyn had had problems prior to this, she’d gone through two divorces and apparently was hospitalised the year before.
‘This was a return to form and she looks healthy and the nudity is subtle - it is pre-sexual revolution.
‘There is a delicacy about the images and Marilyn Monroe is often referred to as vulnerable.
‘The scarf is similar because it is beautiful but also has a vulnerable quality. And the cross she put on one of the photos has a quasi-religious quality.
‘She remains a cult figure and young collectors always come back to Marilyn Monroe,’ Kaplan added.
